Last Thursday sophomores in the Upper School Honors Art Program enjoyed the scrutiny of their parents, teachers and peers as a record number turned out for the show's opening reception. The Sophomore exhibition runs through December 14 in the Honors Art Gallery, located on the Upper School ground floor.

GA's rigorous Honor's Art Program is thriving. Gabrielle Russomagno, Upper School Visual Arts Department Head reflects on the program's successful draw:
"Its exciting to see so many of our young people availing themselves of GA's rich opportunities in the arts. The sophomore honors art show is one of the largest in recent years and reflects not only a wide range of tastes and talents, but the commitment of students expressing themselves through art.
These kids know that a three to four year commitment to studying art not only prepares them to be arts advocates throughout their lives, but prepares them to be leaders in the visual arts and related creative fields as adults. They also discover that a program based on cultivating craft, vision, and problem solving contributes to their overall intellectual development.
It’s apparent that they have a great deal of pride in their accomplishments. The Honors Art shows and the concurrent receptions are a time for them to display their efforts and allows for a public expression of a largely private process."
